    What's a string guard?

Generic Parts offers string guard design for your lift trucks load wheels. What is that and why would I want it?

A warehouse is hardly spotless clean. With all the movement and work going on dirt, debris and dust easily accumulate.

String guards are small "ledges" added to your washer. It keeps debris off your axles and prevents premature wheel and bearing failure.

String guard designs offer improved performance on your electric lift truck.

Wheel assemblies including string guards are available for the following lift truck models:

    Crown PE3000/PE4000/PE4500

    Crown WP2300/WP3000 series

    Hyster W45ZHD

    Hyster B60Z/B80Z/C60Z/C80Z/W60Z/W80Z

How to Operate a Manual Pallet Jack

A Step-by-Step Guide on how to Use a Pallet Jack

Pallet jacks are used for transporting small loads for short distances. They are one of the most essential tools found in warehouses. They are cheaper and easier to operate than forklifts, and safer than manual labor,

How to Operate a Manual Pallet Jack

Manual pallet jacks are simpler than electric pallet jacks, cheaper, and also require less maintenance. They are a good choice for small to mid-sized warehouses.

Here are the simple steps for using a manual pallet jack.

Stand behind the pallet jack with your hands on the metal steering handle, toward the forks, which are facing outward. Locate the control lever on the handle. It is usually attached to the center bar.

Push the pallet jack over to the pallet you would like to move. Press the control lever up and inward to lower the forks to about one-inch off of the ground. If the forks are already lowered, they will not move when you press the lever.
Once the forks have been completely lowered, you can slide them underneath the pallet you would like to move. If they are still too high to easily slide under the pallet, they may not be lowered all the way and you should press the control lever again. Make sure you push the forks all the way through the underside of the pallet so that the wheels are resting on the floor and not on any part of the pallet.

Once the forks are positioned underneath the pallet, pull the whole handle and the entire center bar toward you at an angle. You should feel some resistance and notice the prongs slowly lift up the pallet. Repeat this several times, similar to a pumping motion, so that the forks are far enough off the floor not to drag.

Now you can move your load.

Here you find some safety tips around your pallet jack and here are some general maintenance tips.

Squeak.. squeak... wobble... nothing turns off holiday cheer faster

Nothing is more annoying to your customers

    - and detrimental to your floors -

    than squeaky shopping carts.

What causes the squeaking and wobbling?

If the caster is not aligned correctly it will cause wobbling, and over time, squeaking.

It might be the casters age - shopping cart wheels have an average life span of 2 years - improper installation, or usage of the caster at high speeds.

So how do I fix this?

Regularly clean your carts. Remove large debris by hand, then wash with hot water. Power washers are recommended. This also helps reduce rusting and prolongs the life of your carts. After cleaning inspect your carts and repair minor problems like a damaged bumper or a loose handle.

If your casters are still squeaky after you wash them, lubricate them.

If your casters are rusty or broken beyond repair, replace the wheels. Shopping cart wheels and casters have an average lifespan of two years.

Generic Parts offers a wide range of quality casters. Here is a guide on how to measure your wheels to make sure you order the correct replacements:

    Safety Risks around pallet jacks

Pallet Jacks can pose unique safety risks.

To know them means to avoid them!

    Sufficient clearance

Catching on something is the biggest issue for pallet jacks! Make sure loads are high enough off the ground. Check your route in advance, keep the warehouse clean, and remove anything obstructing the path.

    Inclines

Never use non-motorized jacks on or near ramps. Pulling up a ramp risks injuries and could lead you to lose your grip, letting the jack pick up momentum and go off uncontrolled. Pushing could have them roll backward and risk running over you and others.

    Pulling the load

Never pull the load! You have to work much harder when pulling the jack and puts considerable strain on your back. Also if you need to stop short, the jack can run into you or cause you to turn in ways that risk muscle pulls, slips, and so on.

    Overloading the jack

Know the maximum load limit of the pallet jack you are operating. Never overload! Make sure loads are stacked evenly on the forks before moving the pallet jack. Keep loads as close to the ground as possible.

    We recommend:

    Test before using

Check your jack daily: make sure the wheels are rolling easily and do not have flat spots. Check the forks before loading to ensure they are not damaged. Make sure there is no fluid leaking from the hydraulic unit. Rotate the handles, raise and lower the jack, and test the controls on the pallet jack to make sure everything is working properly before adding a load.

Here you can watch a video on basic troubleshooting.

    how to basic troubleshoot.

If any defects or issues are found during the inspection do not operate the pallet jack and report immediately.

Always wear gloves and hard-toed boots

As with any job in the warehouse, workers need to have the right wearable safety equipment. Heavy-duty gloves protect in the event of pinching, and boots ensure protection in case an item or the whole jack falls on their foot.

Replace worn wheels and damaged parts immediately

Worn wheels can make the jack wobble, and wear and damage other parts. Damaged forks, handles, and other parts risk damaging the load, or worse, the user. Call us for quality replacement parts and we'll ship them the same day. We recommend having an extra set of load wheels on hand.
