Poly tires are recommended for electric trucks, especially when ridden  or capable of lifting above 4 feet, due to the superior stability vs. rubber tires. Polyurethane also has less rolling resistance than rubber which increases efficiency.
Polyurethane tires are harder, can carry greater loads and will outlast a rubber tire by as much as 4 times.  However, they also have less cushioning ability.  Polyurethane tires offer improved traction with different tread types without sacrificing load capacity.  They are more durable and are less likely to suffer from chunking, tearing or delaminating.  Polyurethane tires are able to roll over debris and rough floors with less likelihood of cutting or tearing.

Polyurethane can be slippery when wet but tread styles, such as the Diamond Groove or XGroove are available for wet and cold floor conditions while maintaining high load capacities.

Rubber tires can offer a softer ride and are generally used outdoors on the larger propane and internal combustion lift trucks.  Rubber tires dissipate heat well and are recommended for use at higher speeds. They offer a broader footprint providing better traction, particularly in wet conditions, but have lower load capacities.  Rubber tires are typically made with carbon black and because of this will mark indoor floors.

Tread Patterns

Smooth – Smooth surface tires are best on clean floors and standard warehouse environments.  There are several types of smooth tires.  SC = smooth crown. SF = smooth flat.  These can also have tapered sidewalls TSW or straight sidewalls SSW

X-Groove, also known as Diamond Groove (XG) – These have an X or Diamond pattern cut in the tire surface, best for wet floors and freezer areas.

New Wheel Kits for Electric Lift Trucks

NEW WHEEL KITS FOR ELECTRIC LIFT TRUCKS

Do you need wheels for your Electric Lift Truck?

Why buy a wheel kit?   Wheel kits are economical and convenient, saving you time and money. Every wheel kit includes all the hardware you need for easy to install wheel replacement. Most orders are shipped the same day and come in a compact, easy to store box.

Most wheel kits come with Durarun 95A Poly Wheel assemblies with bearings which are ideal for display floors, carpeting, and warehouses. They mark floors the least and roll easily and quietly.

Electric Lift Truck Wheel Kits

XL Wheel kits come with XL 97A Poly Wheel assemblies with bearings: Longer lasting and harder, they roll more easily than 95A Poly. XL 97A Poly wheels are also engineered specifically to reduce the likelihood of delamination. If delamination is an issue, we recommend XL 97A poly load wheels.

 Electric Lift Truck Wheel Kits

Each load wheel kit comes with two load wheel assemblies including bearings along with axles and fasteners.

We have load wheel kits for most electric lift trucks.

Class III electric lift trucks need stability casters?

Class III Electric lift trucks are electric pallet jacks you'll usually encounter as both walk-behind (walkie) and rider models. Counterbalanced walk behind stackers and units featuring straddle legs also fall into this category.

These will have vertical or horizontal movement and lift loads ranging from 2,000 - 8,000 lbs. The operator position is always in the front of the truck and controls the equipment through a steering tiller. All controls are mounted on the top of the tiller and the tiller is moved side to side to steer the truck.

Most equipment in this category lifts loads only a few inches off the ground however the stackers lift to heights commonly found on forklifts. This class of equipment is typically used to unload delivery trucks and are best for short distances to a staging area or in small warehouses.

So why the need for stability casters?

A stabilizer caster evens out the load balance by providing another point of contact with the ground in addition to the Drive Tire at the driver position and the load bearing wheels under the forks. They also feature shock performance to stabilize the load as it corners. Acting as a shock also reduces wear on the electrical components. Onboard chargers, tiller cards, and motor controllers are just a few examples of components you'll replace less often when utilizing a high-quality stabilizer caster.

All stabilizer casters are not created equal. When replacing an OEM caster or converting stabilizer bar to a caster, you'll get the most bang for your buck when you trust Generic Parts Service with your order.

The stabilizer casters we feature are engineered as a drop-in replacement for Crown, Hyster, Yale, and Raymond electric lift trucks.
  • Less height and performance deterioration over time than traditional metal springs for reliable and consistent performance. Advanced technology includes a premium polyurethane block to replace the use of unreliable metal springs while also providing greater stability in cornering.
  • Premium polyurethane block technology creates greater stability by reducing oscillation and rocking effect the equipment experiences.
  • Important heavy-duty construction with 0.25" thick steel plates and with minimum welds to reduce weak spots.
  • Convenient Height Adjustments offer an easy three-position adjustment bolt to eliminate the hassle of additional spacers
  • Uses a larger wheel (4" O.D.) with the toughest polyurethane compound available and high quality sealed bearings for a longer wheel life
  • Rust-Proof Zinc plated parts and a greasable wheel or axle for corrosive environments
  • Less downtime means higher productivity!

I have a skid plate, can I upgrade to the caster?

From the factory, some walkie pallet jacks feature a skid plate and not the caster assembly. This design has its limits and will never provide the benefits of reduced electrical repairs or true load stability. Our stabilizer casters feature the same bolt pattern and are an easy solution to upgrade your equipment.

The Yale MPB 040 E is an example of one model you can replace the skid plate with our premium stabilizer caster.

Your pallet jack is not lifting properly? Or only half way?

Bleeding the air out of the hydraulic unit is the first step to solving this problem.

The main reason for having air in the hydraulic system is that you have a bad seal that is sucking air in, or the jack was upside down.

All you need is an Allen wrench and a few minutes to watch the step-by-step video:

  • Put the jack on a flat level surface and pump it all the way up. Release and retract all the way down.
  • Open the filler plug on the side of the cylinder with the Allen wrench. (Do not remove the screws on the base!)
  • The location of the plug is significant because it indicates the proper fluid level. It may hiss a little as you unscrew the fill plug.
  • Look into the hole and make sure the level is good. It should be right up to the fill plug hole. If it's low, top it off. Most jacks take about 1 pint of oil.
  • Screw the plug back in.
  • Put the handle release on the up position and pump the jack 10-12 times completely up and down to cycle out any air that is in the system.
  • Then place the lever on the handle into the down position and test the jack. It should work noticeably better.

When should I replace my wheels?

A common question we run across in pallet jack maintenance is "When do I replace the wheels on our equipment"? Of course you may need it when if it's dropped off a dock but your equipment will last longer if regular routine maintenance is performed.

To help out our customers we've created this reference guide  for manual pallet jack steer wheels and load wheels.  Below is a brief overview of the process, however we recommend printing it out for the full details and storing with your reference material.  We advise performing the below inspection points every 6 months.

Pallet Jack Wheel Inspection

1. Test raise & lower function. If unit will not lift, bleed hydraulic unit by pumping handle 10 times with control lever in release position.

2. Once you have verified that the pallet jack will raise and lower, inspect both steer wheels and load wheels. Replace wheels if worn down .25" from new, debris is embedded in material or inhibiting the wheel from turning freely.

Note: Always replace both load wheels or steer wheels even if only one wheel meets the criteria for replacement.

3. Inspect the entry rollers. If they do not turn freely or are visibly damaged, replace.

Pre-Packaged Wheel Kits

Once you know you need to replace a set of Load Wheels, Steer Wheels (or both), a Pre-Packaged Wheel Kit is the best option on the market.  We were the first in the industry to create Pre-Packaged Wheel Kits.  They are in stock and ready to ship same day for most manual and electric pallet jack models.  Our goal is to make routine maintenance as easy as possible and we are excited to see how popular they have become among technicians.

Pre-Packaged Load Wheel kits for electric and manual lifts come ready to install.  You'll receive a pair of load wheels assembled with bearings plus the axles and fasteners.  Have you ever encountered rusted axles that had to be cut off? Maybe you are cursed with roll pins or snap rings that flew away. Complete every job the first time by showing up with all the components you need.

Pre-Packaged Complete Wheel Kits for manual pallet jacks come with all components you receive in a Load Wheel Kit, plus both steer wheels, bearings, steer wheel axle and fasteners. It's a great idea to have a couple extras in stock to stay ahead of emergencies, (as in the jack fell off the dock and now can't unload that shipment).

We do understand customers who want to be frugal by re-using axles if possible. To that end, in many cases the kits are less expensive than ordering even just the wheels separately.  After 30+ years of putting our customers first we feel bad when an additional order has to be placed for a second load wheel or axles (or those air-born roll pins!).  No one wants to pay shipping twice and wait days for delivery.
